1:1 Learning Support Assistant (Mental Health / SEN Focus)

Location Havering
Pay £100 to £110 per day PAYE
Contract Full Time Temp to Perm
Start: Easter 2026

This role is about showing up calmly, consistently, and with care. It’s for someone who understands mental health beyond theory and knows that feeling safe always comes before learning. If you’re comfortable with complexity and value steady, human progress over quick wins, you’ll feel at home here.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and resilient Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and complex social, emotional, and mental health needs.

This role forms part of a carefully structured support package designed to increase school attendance, emotional regulation, and engagement within a safe, calm environment. You will work closely with school staff and external professionals, following clear safeguarding and support plans.

This position is not suitable for candidates without direct mental health experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to help the student remain regulated, safe, and engaged throughout the school day
  • Use calming, therapeutic, and interest-led strategies to support emotional regulation and focus
  • Deliver basic learning support aligned with the student’s individual plan, including literacy, numeracy, and life skills
  • Support the student outside of mainstream lessons where appropriate, in line with agreed strategies
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN teams, and external professionals
  • Undertake general LSA duties within the school when the student is not in attendance

Candidate Requirements

  • Essential: Direct, hands-on experience supporting children or adults with mental health needs in a professional or structured setting
  • A degree in Psychology, Mental Health, or a related field is desirable, or substantial experience within mental health or social care
  • School-based experience welcomed but not essential
  • Calm, patient, emotionally resilient, and confident supporting complex needs
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries, and multi-agency working
  • Able to build consistent, trusting relationships

Your experience matters here. It will be valued, supported, and used thoughtfully.
