Are you passionate about supporting young people who struggle to access mainstream education due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
We are working closely with a specialist SEMH school based in Enfield, North London. The school is set within a modern, purpose-built environment designed to support both staff and students. It caters for pupils from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4 and works using a strong trauma-informed approach to ensure every student is supported holistically, both academically and emotionally.
The school is currently recruiting for two SEMH Teaching Assistant roles.
1 x STA (SEMH – Year 5)
This role involves supporting a Year 5 pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. The successful candidate will provide consistent, nurturing support to help the pupil regulate emotions, engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.
This role requires a candidate who is skilled in relationship-building and confident in using de-escalation strategies. You must be able to remain calm, consistent and resilient during challenging situations, while maintaining clear boundaries within a supportive framework.
1 x SEMH Teaching Assistant – Key Stage 3 (2:1 Support)
This position involves supporting a Key Stage 3 student in a 2:1 capacity. The pupil presents with significant SEMH and behavioural needs and is considered one of the most challenging students on the secondary site.
For this role, it is essential that you have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs. Experience can be professional (schools, PRUs, youth work, care or coaching) or personal.
The role
Across both positions, you will support students with SEMH needs to help them access learning in a structured and meaningful way. You will encourage positive behaviour, support emotional regulation and contribute to creating a safe, predictable and consistent environment.
A background in sports or coaching would be highly valued, particularly in supporting engagement, routine and emotional regulation.
The ideal candidate
You will have experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, trauma, sensory processing difficulties or social communication needs. You will be able to build strong and meaningful relationships, act as a positive role model and demonstrate effective behaviour management skills. Patience, empathy, resilience and a genuine passion for working with SEND are essential.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference within a specialist setting that prioritises staff support and professional development.
