A mainstream primary school based in Islington is looking for a 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to work closely with a student who is transitioning from a Pupil Referral Unit this September. This is a rewarding role where you will be supporting the student's social, emotional and academic development, ensuring they have the tools and support they need to thrive in mainstream education.
About the role:
- Provide 1:1 support for a student with SEMH needs, ensuring they feel safe, confident and engaged in a mainstream setting
- To build a trusting relationship with the student and support them in their transition
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to develop tailored support plans
- Support in the student building positive relationships with peers
- Promote positive behaviour
- Encourage self-confidence and independence
What the requirements are:
- Experience working with children, ideally those with SEMH or behavioural challenges
- Strong understanding of child development and SEMH strategies
- Able to build trusting and supportive relationships with children
- Has a positive and patient approach
