A welcoming and supportive primary school in Battersea is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The pupil accesses the curriculum well and engages positively with learning; however, she can experience periods of significant emotional dysregulation which may present as shouting, screaming, or throwing objects when overwhelmed. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the pupil regulate her emotions, remain engaged in learning, and access a safe and supportive school environment.

The Role

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil throughout the school day.
  • Support the child to access learning activities and follow classroom routines.
  • Remain calm and professional during periods of dysregulation.
  • Use de-escalation strategies to support emotional regulation.
  • Escort and support the pupil in accessing designated quiet or safe spaces when required.
  • Build a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff to ensure consistency of support.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, SEMH, behavioural needs, or emotional regulation difficulties.
  • Patient, resilient, and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to respond to challenging situations without taking behaviours personally.
  • Adaptable, proactive, and committed to supporting children's development and wellbeing.
  • Experience within a primary school setting is desirable but not essential.

If you are a compassionate and resilient individual who is passionate about helping children succeed, we would love to hear from you. Apply today to be considered for this rewarding opportunity. Kindly apply to the advert or email your CV to bethany@psinclusion.co.uk.
