Job Summary

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child with Autism in a mainstream school setting. This role is ideal for someone with patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children with additional needs access education and reach their potential. It is a full-time, term-time only role with the opportunity to secure a permanent contract after two successful terms.

About the Role

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a pupil who requires additional support to fully access the curriculum. You will provide consistent guidance, implement tailored strategies, and encourage independence and confidence in a nurturing environment. You will also collaborate with class teachers, SEN staff, and parents to ensure the child’s needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with Autism

  • Adapt learning activities to suit the individual needs of the pupil

  • Use strategies to support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation

  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and parents to monitor and review progress

  • Promote an inclusive, safe, and engaging classroom environment

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with Autism or SEN (desirable but not essential)

  • Patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting individual needs

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Flexible, proactive, and committed to child development and well-being

  • A genuine interest in working with children with special educational needs
