1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Barnet

Barnet, North London
£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
8:30am–4:00pm | Full-time | Term-time

The best 1:1 support is not about creating dependency. It is about understanding what a pupil needs today while gradually helping them develop the confidence and skills to manage more independently tomorrow.

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant in Barnet to provide consistent individual support to a pupil with additional needs.

You will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to help the pupil access learning, manage the school day and develop greater independence.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day

  • Helping the pupil access lessons and classroom activities

  • Breaking learning into manageable stages

  • Supporting attention, communication and engagement

  • Helping with transitions between activities or environments

  • Encouraging social interaction and independence

  • Using agreed strategies consistently

  • Recognising when to provide support and when to step back

  • Recording relevant progress and observations

  • Working closely with teachers, SEND staff and other professionals

Essential requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people

  • A calm and reliable approach

  • Strong communication skills

  • The ability to build professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries

  • Patience and consistency

  • A commitment to safeguarding

Desirable experience

  • Previous 1:1 SEND support

  • SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant experience

  • Experience supporting autism, ADHD, communication needs, learning difficulties or social and emotional needs

  • Experience from education, care, youth work, mentoring, coaching or similar environments

Why 1:1 support?

You have the opportunity to understand one pupil in depth: what motivates them, what creates barriers to learning and which strategies genuinely help.

A successful 1:1 Teaching Assistant gradually makes themselves less necessary by helping the pupil develop confidence, independence and strategies of their own.

Why Parker Smith Inclusion?

SEND recruitment is our sole focus.

We take time to understand your strengths and the type of pupil support you are comfortable providing, rather than simply matching a CV to a vacancy.

You will receive transparent communication, honest advice and ongoing specialist support. PAYE placements are available where applicable.
