1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant - Croydon

Long Term COntract

Date Posted: Tuesday 31 March 2026

, Ref: 12178

Not every student needs teaching, some need someone who truly understands them.

Parker Smith Inclusion is proud to be working with a forward-thinking, rapidly growing specialist education setting, seeking a compassionate and emotionally intelligent 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a highly able Year 8 student.

This is not a typical classroom support role. It is an opportunity to become a trusted adult for a young person navigating significant barriers to education and to help them rediscover safety, confidence and a sense of belonging in learning.

You will be supporting a bright, high-achieving Year 8 student with a EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance), alongside anxiety. The student is academically capable and motivated but currently needs the right support to access their education consistently and confidently.

This role requires someone who can look beyond behaviour and truly understand the emotional drivers behind it, someone who can build trust slowly, patiently and authentically.

You won’t just be filling a role, you’ll be helping to shape a culture, a culture where emotionally based needs are understood, where students are seen as individuals, and where education is delivered with compassion and purpose.

What Makes This Role Unique

  • You will work 1:1, developing a meaningful, consistent relationship.
  • There may be occasional home-based support, so confidence in liaising with families is essential.
  • You will be part of a nurturing, high-achieving school environment that prioritises emotional wellbeing alongside academic success.
  • The setting is new and growing rapidly, with multiple future opportunities for progression.
  • Students present with high anxiety rather than challenging or aggressive behaviours, requiring a calm, empathetic approach.

Who We’re Looking For

This role would suit someone who:

  • Has experience supporting young people with EBSA, anxiety, or complex emotional needs.
  • Is naturally nurturing, patient, and emotionally attuned.
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships with both students and families.
  • Has a solid academic background and confidence supporting a high-achieving student.
  • Is reflective, resilient, and able to adapt their approach to meet individual needs.
