Location: Harrow, North West London
Salary: £95–£120 per day PAYE
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start Date: Immediate

Are you someone who can build positive relationships, remain calm under pressure and make a genuine difference to a young person's day?

We're working with a specialist SEMH setting in Harrow looking to appoint a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a young person with ADHD.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs, developing their confidence and helping them re-engage with education.

The setting supports young people who may have struggled in mainstream education and require a more personalised approach to learning, behaviour and emotional development.

About the role

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you'll provide consistent, individualised support to a young person throughout the school day.

Your role will be to help them access learning, manage their emotions and behaviour, build positive relationships and develop the confidence and independence needed to make progress.

You'll become an important part of their daily routine, providing encouragement, structure and consistency while acting as a positive role model.

This role will suit someone who is patient, resilient and confident setting clear and appropriate boundaries. No two days will be the same, but your consistency and approach could make a real difference.

The setting

This is a specialist SEMH environment supporting young people with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

  • ADHD.

  • Autism and additional learning difficulties.

  • Behavioural challenges and difficulties accessing mainstream education.

The focus is on creating a supportive environment where young people can rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships and make meaningful progress.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.

  • Supporting the young person to engage with lessons and activities.

  • Building a positive, trusting and consistent relationship.

  • Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour management.

  • Implementing appropriate strategies to manage challenging behaviour.

  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive decision-making.

  • Working closely with teachers and the wider support team.

  • Creating a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.

Who we are looking for

We're keen to hear from people who:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, ADHD or autism.

  • Have worked in education, youth work, mentoring, residential care or a similar environment.

  • Can build positive and meaningful relationships with young people.

  • Bring a calm, patient and consistent approach.

  • Are confident managing challenging behaviour and setting boundaries.

  • Are resilient, adaptable and able to think on their feet.

  • Have a genuine passion for helping young people reach their potential.

Previous experience is beneficial, but we're also interested in candidates with strong transferable skills and relevant voluntary or personal experience.

Why consider this opportunity?

Working in specialist education can be an incredibly rewarding career.

You'll gain valuable hands-on experience supporting a young person with additional needs, develop your understanding of SEMH and behaviour management, and learn from experienced professionals within a specialist setting.

Whether you're looking to build a long-term career in SEND, education, psychology, social care or therapy, this could be an excellent starting point.
