We're recruiting on behalf of an SEMH specialist secondary school in Richmond for a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant. This is a 1:1 support role for a student with social, emotional and mental health needs, some of whom also present with ASC or ADHD. You'll be working closely with one young person, building a consistent, trusted relationship that helps them re-engage with education.

About the School
This is a specialist secondary school in Richmond, supporting students whose social, emotional and mental health needs mean they need more consistency, structure and understanding than a mainstream setting can offer. Staff are given proper training and ongoing support to work with complex behaviour, and the emphasis is on building trust with each young person rather than managing them.
Commutable from Twickenham, Teddington, Hampton, Kingston and the wider Richmond area.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing 1:1 support to a secondary-aged student with SEMH needs, including ASC or ADHD-related needs
- Building rapport and acting as a consistent, trusted adult in the student's day
- Setting clear, calm boundaries and de-escalating challenging behaviour
- Supporting access to lessons and encouraging engagement with learning
- Working closely with teaching staff to adapt support to the student's needs day to day
Who We're Looking For
- Experience working with young people who have SEND, SEMH, ASC, ADHD, trauma or social communication needs, whether paid or voluntary
- Previous experience as a Youth Mentor, Support Worker, or similar role working directly with young people
- The ability to stay calm under pressure and build strong, meaningful relationships
- A genuine interest in working in SEND or SEMH, whether you're starting out or already experienced
This role also suits aspiring Teachers, Educational Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Counsellors, and Social Workers looking to build relevant, hands-on experience.
