1:1 Learning Support Assistant – Autism
Location: Stratford, East London
Start Date: Immediate
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Are you a nurturing, patient and confident Learning Support Assistant looking for a rewarding 1:1 role?
We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a young learner with Autism within an inclusive SEMH school in Stratford.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people feel safe, supported and able to access education in a way that works for them.
The learner benefits from structure, consistency and routine and requires an adult who can build a positive relationship with him while providing clear boundaries and a firm but fair approach. He will require significant guidance and support throughout lessons, as his learning needs mean he is unlikely to be accessing the standard Year 8 curriculum at this stage.
The successful candidate will be someone who can provide a calm, nurturing and consistent presence, helping the learner to engage with learning, manage expectations and develop confidence within the school environment.
The Role
As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will:
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a young learner with Autism.
- Build a trusting and positive relationship with the learner.
- Support him in accessing learning at an appropriate level and pace.
- Provide guidance and encouragement throughout lessons.
- Help maintain a predictable and structured routine.
- Use a calm, patient and consistent approach when supporting behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Establish clear boundaries using a firm but fair approach.
- Encourage independence and celebrate progress, however small.
- Work closely with teachers and the wider support team to ensure the learner's needs are understood and met.
- Help the learner navigate the wider school environment and daily routines.
- Be flexible and willing to provide support to other learners across the school when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Nurturing, patient and empathetic.
- Calm and consistent in their approach.
- Confident setting boundaries and maintaining expectations.
- Understanding of Autism and/or additional educational needs.
- Able to adapt learning and communication to meet an individual's needs.
- Resilient and able to remain composed in challenging situations.
- Passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential.
- A strong communicator who can work effectively as part of a wider school team.
- Flexible and willing to support the wider needs of the school when required.
Previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism, SEND, SEMH or complex additional needs for 1-2 years within a school setting is required to be considered for this school.
The School
The school is an inclusive SEMH setting in Stratford, committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for young people with a range of additional needs.
This role would suit an individual who understands that progress is not always measured by academic achievement alone and who can recognise the importance of routine, relationships, emotional wellbeing and small steps of progress.
