Are you a Mainstream Primary School Teacher looking for an exciting new opportunity?
Maybe you are looking to make the transition into SEN teaching?
Do you have a strong background in supporting children with Autism / ASC?
The role
I am seeking a strong teacher to teach a class in an ARP of a mainstream primary school. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a good background in SEN to showcase their skills and teach a class of 11 pupils. All children in the class have SLCN and require patience and nurturing to help educate.
Some pupils in the class are nonverbal, so it is essential that the Teacher understands why different communication methods are necessary and can implement some, such as PECs, core boards and Makaton.
Due to children’s needs, sometimes they can present with challenging behaviour. Therefore, it is important that the successful Teacher has a strong background in behaviour management and de-escalation techniques. Three members of support staff are assigned to this class, so there is lots of help to manage this.
It is also important that the successful Teacher has experience in planning and assessing children with additional needs so that areas of improvement can be highlighted. This will allow the children to achieve the best that they can.
Teacher Requirements
- Must have QTS
- Able to deliver core subjects and adapt their teaching methods to suit each pupil
- Experience in teaching with emotional regulation and with positive behaviour/de-escalation strategies
- Positive role model to support communication with a sensitive, nurturing, and consistent approach
- Experience with communication methods such as PECs and Core Boards
- Ability to build strong and meaningful relationships with vulnerable students
- A strong interest in Autism / ASC
