We are working on unique role that combines creativity, care and passion. This position is in an all-boys specialist secondary school that supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school’s focus is to use art as non-threatening tool for self-expression, trauma processing and emotional regulation.
The Role
Working alongside the Art Teacher, you'll support creative lessons and encourage pupils to explore different artistic techniques while developing their confidence and communication skills. You'll provide support both in class and through 1:1 or small group sessions, helping pupils engage with learning in a way that works for them.
Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting engaging Art and Design lessons

Working 1:1 and with small groups of pupils

Encouraging creativity, confidence and self-expression

Adapting activities to meet individual learning needs

Preparing materials and helping maintain a safe and organised classroom

Celebrating pupils' achievements through displays and creative projects

Working closely with teachers and the wider SEND team
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or a qualification in Art, Design, Fine Art, Illustration, Creative Practice or a related subject
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, Autism, ADHD or behaviours that challenge
- Have worked in an SEMH school, PRU, Alternative Provision, youth work, care, mentoring or another role with transferable experience
- Have practical experience with a range of artistic techniques such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media or digital art
- Understand how creativity can support emotional regulation, wellbeing and confidence
- Have an understanding of sensory needs and be able to adapt activities to suit individual pupils
- Be patient, caring and able to build positive relationships with young people
- Stay calm and positive when supporting pupils who may become frustrated or emotionally dysregulated
- Have a genuine passion for art, creativity and helping young people reach their potential
