SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism, Complex Needs and SLD

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Complex Needs? We're looking for a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a supportive and rewarding educational environment where you can truly make a difference.

About the Role:
As a 1:1 or small group SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require specialist, individualised support. These may include learners with:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Severe or profound learning difficulties(PMLD)
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Communication difficulties
  • Emotional regulation challenges
  • Physical or medical needs

You will play a key role in promoting access to learning, engagement, and emotional well-being, while following personalised learning and support plans developed with the wider team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing consistent, 1:1 or small group support tailored to the needs of each pupil
  • Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour using therapeutic strategies
  • Assisting with personal care and physical needs, where required
  • Facilitating engagement through structured routines, sensory activities, and communication aids
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families

Ideal Experience & Skills:

  • Knowledge or experience of Autism and Complex Needs
  • Experience with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • PECS, Makaton or other communication systems
  • Social Stories and visual supports
  • Sensory Circuits and regulation tools
  • Use of therapeutic approaches (e.g., Intensive Interaction, Zones of Regulation)
  • School-based/Youth work experience - required
