Are you passionate about supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) to thrive in a specialist education setting?
We are working closely with a specialist SEN school based in Enfield, North London, which supports pupils with both Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school caters for pupils across primary and secondary age groups and provides a supportive, structured environment where individual needs are placed at the centre of each child's education.
The school has two dedicated ASC classes within its primary provision and is currently looking for an ASC Teaching Assistant to join the team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working closely with autistic children and understands the importance of consistency, communication and relationship-building.
As an ASC Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of individual needs, including social communication differences, sensory processing needs, emotional regulation and engagement with learning. You will work alongside teachers and other professionals to provide a structured and nurturing learning environment, helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and communication skills.
The role will involve supporting children both academically and emotionally, using strategies tailored to each pupil. You may support with transitions, sensory regulation, communication, social interaction and managing moments of dysregulation. A calm, patient and consistent approach will be particularly important.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience supporting autistic children or young people, whether professionally or personally. Experience with SEMH, sensory processing needs, communication difficulties or additional SEND needs would also be highly valued.
You will be someone who can build strong and meaningful relationships with pupils, recognise that behaviour is a form of communication and adapt your approach to meet individual needs. Patience, empathy, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND are essential.
