Autism SEN Teaching Assistant - Hounslow

, Ref: 11843

Hammersmith & Fulham, West London
£90–£100 per day PAYE
Full-time | Long-term
Start Date: ASAP

When a child is pre-verbal, the work becomes quieter. More observant. More intentional.

This primary setting in Hammersmith & Fulham is strengthening its SEND provision and is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant who genuinely understands autism, not just as a label, but as a different way of processing the world.

These are purposeful roles. They require experience. They require emotional steadiness. They are not stepping-stone positions for someone exploring education casually.

The Provision

This role is based within a small alternative provision supporting four Reception-aged children.

All pupils have a diagnosis of Autism (ASC).
They are predominantly pre-verbal.
They present with learning delays and sensory processing differences.

Your day to day will include:

  • Supporting early communication using visuals and structured approaches
  • Assisting with sensory regulation strategies
  • Helping children transition between activities safely
  • Facilitating play-based developmental learning
  • Supporting toileting and personal care where required
  • Managing dysregulation calmly and consistently

You will need direct experience supporting children with Autism and complex communication needs. EYFS experience is highly beneficial.

Progress here is measured in small but significant steps. A smoother transition. A new sound. Five regulated minutes where there were none before.

This environment suits people who notice those moments and understand their importance.

Who This Role Is For

This role is right for you if:

  • You have professional experience in SEND settings
  • You have worked in specialist units, SEN schools or alternative provisions
  • You understand sensory processing and communication differences
  • You do not take dysregulation personally
  • You are considering a long-term career in SEND

This role is not suitable if you are looking for general classroom experience without SEN focus.

The Setting

This is a structured, inclusive primary environment with a clear commitment to specialist support. The alternative provision is small by design and prioritises consistency, routine and low-arousal practice.
