Autism Support Assistant
Location: Stanmore, North West London
Pay: £90–£100 per day (PAYE only)
Contract: Full-time | Long-term
Start Date: ASAP
Do you believe that when an autistic child feels safe, learning and communication can finally begin?
Progress may be gradual, but it will be real. And your impact will be felt every single day.
A nurturing specialist SEN school in Stanmore is looking for an Autism Support Assistant to work with primary-aged pupils with Autism (ASC), non-verbal communication and complex needs.
This role is for someone who understands that progress isn’t always loud or immediate. Sometimes it starts with a child accepting an adult in their space. Sometimes it’s a moment of calm after a difficult transition. Sometimes it’s a first attempt to communicate in a new way.
The role
As an Autism Support Assistant, you will support pupils in a calm, structured and consistent way throughout the school day. You will work 1:1 and in small groups, helping pupils access learning, develop communication, and build regulation skills.
You will use visual timetables, routines and AAC strategies to support communication, and you will play an important role in helping pupils manage sensory input, transitions and emotionally challenging moments. You will work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team to follow individualised plans, contribute to targets, and celebrate every step of progress.
This is a hands-on, purposeful role where your presence, patience and consistency will make the difference.
Who this role suits
This role is ideal for someone who has experience supporting children with Autism, non-verbal communication or complex needs, or someone who is committed to developing their skills in specialist education.
You will be patient, emotionally intuitive and reflective, with the ability to stay calm and steady when a pupil is dysregulated. You will understand that behaviour is communication, and you will be motivated by long-term impact rather than quick wins.
The setting
This specialist school is designed around the needs of autistic children with complex profiles. Staff work as a close team, with a strong focus on structure, sensory awareness, communication and wellbeing. The environment is nurturing, predictable and supportive, helping pupils feel understood and ready to learn.
