Autism Support Assistant - Barnet
£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
Barnet, North London
Full-time | Long-term
I am recruiting an Autism Support Assistant for a full-time role in Barnet.
I am looking for someone who understands that good autism support is not about forcing a pupil to fit into the classroom. It is about understanding how they communicate, recognising what may cause anxiety or dysregulation and giving them the consistency they need to engage successfully.
You may currently work as a SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Autism Support Worker.
The role
You will support pupils across their school day, including:
-
Supporting communication and interaction
-
Helping pupils understand routines and transitions
-
Encouraging engagement with learning
-
Providing individual and small-group support
-
Supporting emotional and sensory regulation
-
Using visual or structured approaches where appropriate
-
Helping pupils develop greater independence
-
Working closely with teachers and other SEND staff
-
Maintaining clear, consistent expectations
What I am looking for
Essential:
-
Experience working with children or young people
-
A calm, patient and consistent approach
-
Confidence building professional relationships
-
Good communication skills
-
Genuine interest in autism and SEND
Desirable:
-
Previous autism experience
-
Special school or specialist provision experience
-
Previous work as a SEN TA, LSA or support worker
-
Experience with communication or sensory needs
Why consider the role?
The most effective Autism Support Assistants become skilled at noticing the things other people can easily miss — changes in regulation, communication attempts, sensory overwhelm and the small steps towards independence.
This role gives you the opportunity to develop those skills while gaining further specialist SEND experience.
Parker Smith Inclusion

I aim to provide candidates with an honest understanding of each role before they interview, alongside ongoing specialist support throughout their placement.
Where applicable, placements are paid through PAYE.
If you have autism or SEND experience and are looking for a full-time position in Barnet, please apply.
