Are you an experienced and passionate teacher looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to autistic young people?

We are proud to be working with a wonderful specialist SEND school in Merton, seeking a Class Teacher to join their supportive and dedicated team from January 2026.

You will lead a small class of 7 pupils, all diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), with a range of abilities, from pupils working below national curriculum levels to those engaging with early Key Stage 1 learning objectives.

Working closely with two experienced Learning Support Assistants, you will create a nurturing and engaging learning environment where every pupil can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver personalised, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of autistic pupils

  • Use creative and structured approaches to support communication, sensory regulation, and independence

  • Work collaboratively with support staff and therapists to deliver a holistic learning experience

  • Track and assess progress, adapting teaching strategies to ensure every child achieves their potential

  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture that promotes wellbeing and confidence

  • Build strong relationships with families and contribute to wider school life

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (applications from ECTs with SEND experience also considered)

  • Experience teaching pupils with ASC and complex communication needs

  • A nurturing, reflective approach with excellent behaviour management and differentiation skills

  • Commitment to inclusive education and a genuine passion for supporting autistic learners
