Parker Smith Inclusion are proud to be working with a specialist secondary school that supports pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and a range of associated needs, including sensory processing differences, communication difficulties, learning disabilities, and complex behaviours. The school is looking for a compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team on a full-time, long-term basis.
The Role:
This is a highly rewarding role where you will play a key part in supporting students’ development across communication, emotional regulation, independence, and learning.
You will:

Build consistent, trusting relationships with students and provide calm, structured support throughout the school day

Understand and respond to the individual communication styles of students – including using PECS, Makaton, and visual supports

Work closely with teachers and therapists to support structured learning and promote emotional and sensory regulation

Provide a safe and supportive environment, recognising triggers and behaviours linked to anxiety or sensory overload

Support pupils with personal care and daily routines with sensitivity and respect, promoting independence and self-esteem

Assist with manual handling for students with physical needs (training provided)

Collaborate with families, therapists, and the wider staff team to ensure consistency and shared understanding of students’ needs
About You:
We’re looking for someone who:

Has previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism and associated needs

Understands the importance of structure, routine, and visual communication tools in an autism-friendly setting

Is confident using or learning Makaton, PECS, or other AAC tools
-
Has a calm, consistent, and empathetic approach – particularly when supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
-
Is willing to support students with personal care and physical needs in a dignified and respectful manner
-
Has First Aid training (or is willing to obtain it)
