We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming, community-focused primary school in Sutton. The school has a strong reputation for inclusion and provides both 1:1 support within mainstream classrooms and access to a well-established SEND provision for pupils with additional needs.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will be supporting children with special educational needs on a 1:1 basis and, where required, within a specialist SEND provision. Pupils present with a range of needs including autism, speech and language delays, and social communication difficulties.

You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop communication skills, and build confidence and independence throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for primary-aged pupils with SEND, including autism and speech & language needs

  • Support pupils within a specialist SEND provision and mainstream classrooms as required

  • Assist children in accessing the curriculum through differentiated, child-centred approaches

  • Use communication strategies, visual supports, and sensory-informed techniques to meet individual needs

  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and positive engagement with learning

  • Help manage daily routines, transitions, and structured activities

  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCo, and support staff to deliver tailored support plans

  • Foster a calm, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

About You:

  • Experience working with children with SEND (school-based or alternative settings preferred)

  • Confidence supporting pupils with autism and communication needs

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and supporting vulnerable learners

  • Relevant experience or qualifications (Teaching Assistant, SEN support, childcare, psychology, youth work, etc.) are desirable but not essential
