A specialist SEN primary school in Hounslow is looking for a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and complex needs.
In this setting, progress is not always measured through traditional academics. For many pupils, success might be maintaining engagement, building trust with adults, or taking small but meaningful steps toward independence. Many children are non-verbal and rely on calm, familiar adults to help them feel secure within structured routines.
This is a role for someone who is patient, emotionally aware, and committed to providing consistent support throughout the school day.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism and complex needs
- Support personal care, hygiene, feeding and mobility respectfully where required
- Assist with sensory-based activities to encourage engagement and emotional regulation
- Use visual timetables, structured routines and communication tools such as PECS or AAC
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider SEN team to follow EHCP targets
- Help maintain a calm, structured and nurturing learning environment
Who This Role Would Suit
- Experience supporting children or young people with Autism, PMLD or complex SEN
- Background in special schools, care work, support work, youth services or healthcare
- Comfortable supporting personal care and physical needs where required
- Patient, attentive and emotionally resilient approach
