Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA / SEND TA) - Sutton

Location: Sutton, South West London
Pay: £92.58–£100 per day PAYE (depending on experience)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am – 3:30pm
Contract: Full-time, long-term (term-time only)
Start: ASAP/September

We are seeking a Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a supportive SEND School in Sutton supporting children with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), physical disabilities and complex needs.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone who understands that every small milestone matters when working with children with additional needs.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities

You will work closely with the class teacher to support both learning and emotional regulation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils

  • Supporting children with Autism, SLD, PMLD and complex needs

  • Adapting your approach to each child’s communication and engagement style

  • Supporting personal care where required (toileting, changing etc.)

  • Helping pupils regulate during moments of dysregulation

  • Hyrdotherapy

  • Encouraging engagement through play-based and sensory learning activities

Ideal Candidate

This role would suit someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children with SEND, Autism, or complex needs

  • Is patient, calm, and emotionally resilient

  • Understands that behaviour is communication

  • Has a genuine enthusiasm for supporting children with additional needs

Experience in the following backgrounds can be particularly valuable:

  • SEN / SEND education

  • Attention Autism/Curiosity-based learning

  • Early Years education

  • Care or support work

  • Psychology or therapy pathways

  • Team-Teach or PRICE training (positive handling training of some type) is desirable but not essential.

We also welcome candidates with lived experience supporting individuals with additional needs.
