About the role

For some autistic young people, having the right adult beside them can make the difference between a difficult day and a successful one.

It can mean feeling understood, managing a challenging moment, accessing learning or simply having someone who remains calm and consistent when things become overwhelming.

A specialist SEND setting in Southall is looking for Autism Teaching Assistants to support autistic students with severe learning difficulties and behaviours of concern.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and genuinely wants to help young people develop confidence, communication and independence.

As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide consistent support throughout the school day.

The role

You will:

Support autistic students with learning, communication and development
Provide one-to-one and small group support where required
Help students manage behaviours of concern in a calm and consistent way
Build trusting relationships with students
Encourage communication, independence and positive social interaction
Support students to access lessons and daily school activities
Follow individual support strategies and contribute to a consistent approach
Work closely with teachers and specialist staff
Help create a safe, structured and positive learning environment

Who we are looking for

You may have previous experience working with:

Autistic children or young people
Severe learning difficulties or complex SEND
Behaviours of concern
Specialist schools or SEND provisions
Care, residential, youth work or support work

Most importantly, you will be:

Patient, calm and emotionally resilient
Confident maintaining boundaries and consistency
Able to remain composed during challenging situations
Caring and empathetic
Comfortable following individualised support strategies
A strong communicator and team player
Committed to helping autistic young people make progress
