Autism Teaching Assistant – Creative SEND School (Long-Term to Permanent)
South West London – £85 to £95 PAYE per day
ASAP or September Start | Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 4:00pm
Are you someone who truly cares about helping children with special educational needs thrive? Do you enjoy creative play, teamwork, and being part of a setting that celebrates neurodiversity?
We are working with an outstanding special school in South West London that supports children and young people aged 4–19 with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). This school is a warm, sensory-rich environment built around the needs of each pupil.
They are looking for kind, committed Autism Teaching Assistants to join the team long-term, with the view to going permanent. If you're a psychology graduate, drama graduate, aspiring therapist, or simply someone with a heart for SEND, this could be the perfect next step for you.
What you will be doing:
- Supporting children with Autism and complex needs in a small, highly supported classroom environment
- Engaging in creative, play-based learning that values interaction over instruction
- Using non-verbal communication tools such as Makaton or PECS (training can be provided)
- Helping children regulate dysregulated behaviour, including pinching, biting, spitting or scratching – always with patience, empathy, and support
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and a brilliant team of Teaching Assistants
- Getting involved in sensory play, art, hydrotherapy, and communication-focused sessions
What Makes This School Special?
- The leadership team is second to none – approachable, experienced, and genuinely supportive.
- Teamwork is at the heart of the school’s success – staff genuinely love working here
- State-of-the-art facilities, including a hydrotherapy pool and sensory rooms
- A creative curriculum that nurtures expression, independence, and joy
- Ongoing CPD and career progression are available for the right people
Who Should Apply?
- Psychology, Drama, Art or SEND graduates looking for meaningful classroom experience
- Experienced SEN Teaching Assistants who want to work in a highly creative, well-resourced setting
- Those passionate about working with children with Autism, SLD, or PMLD
- Support workers, youth mentors or care professionals with relevant transferable skills
