£170–£260 per day PAYE | Full Time | Term Time Only | Temp to Perm
What if your clinical expertise could help a young person develop the confidence, regulation and independence they need to succeed?
Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a specialist secondary school in Hillingdon that is looking for a Band 5/6 Occupational Therapist to join its supportive and multidisciplinary environment.
The setting works with young people aged 11–19 with social, emotional and mental health needs, alongside a range of additional needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and other complex SEND.
This is an opportunity to take your occupational therapy experience into an environment where therapy is closely connected to education, wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.
About the Role
As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide assessment, intervention and practical support to young people who may experience barriers to learning, participation, emotional regulation and independence.
You will work alongside teachers, support staff, families and other professionals to understand each student's needs and develop strategies that can be embedded throughout their school day.
The role would suit an OT who enjoys working creatively, building strong relationships and finding practical solutions to help young people participate more successfully in education and everyday life.
The Setting
The school provides specialist education for young people with SEMH needs, with many students also presenting with autism and other complex learning and developmental needs.
The setting takes a holistic approach to supporting students, with a focus extending beyond academic achievement to communication, relationships, wellbeing, independence and preparation for adulthood.
Students have access to a wider therapeutic offer, including Speech and Language Therapy and other therapeutic interventions, creating a collaborative environment in which occupational therapy can form part of a broader whole-school approach.
The Role
As a Band 5/6 Occupational Therapist, you will:
-
Complete occupational therapy assessments and identify individual needs
-
Develop and deliver appropriate intervention programmes
-
Support students with sensory processing and emotional regulation
-
Develop functional skills and independence
-
Identify barriers affecting participation in learning and school routines
-
Provide practical advice and strategies to teaching and support staff
-
Contribute to EHCP outcomes and annual reviews
-
Monitor and evaluate student progress
-
Work collaboratively with families and other professionals
-
Help embed therapeutic strategies within the wider school environment
-
Contribute to a positive, inclusive and therapeutic culture
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for a qualified Occupational Therapist who is passionate about supporting young people with SEND and wants to develop their practice within a specialist education environment.
You will ideally have:
-
HCPC registration
-
Experience working with children, young people or adults with additional needs
-
Knowledge of SEND, autism, SEMH or complex presentations
-
An understanding of sensory processing and regulation
-
Experience completing assessments and developing intervention plans
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-
The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
-
A patient, flexible and solution-focused approach
This role could suit an experienced Band 5 OT looking to develop into a specialist education setting, or a Band 6 OT looking for a role where they can have greater influence across the wider school environment.
Why This Role Matters
For young people with SEMH and complex SEND, the ability to regulate, communicate, participate and manage everyday tasks can have a significant impact on their education and future independence.
Your work could help a student understand their sensory needs, develop coping strategies, become more independent or feel more confident participating in school life.
The school's wider focus is on helping young people develop the skills they need for relationships, employment, independence and successful adult lives.
