What if your occupational therapy expertise could help young people build confidence, develop independence and overcome barriers to learning?

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a Band 5/6 Occupational Therapist to join a specialist secondary education setting in Hillingdon, supporting young people aged 11–19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and complex SEND.

This is an opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary environment where occupational therapy plays an important role in emotional regulation, sensory development, functional skills and preparation for adulthood.

About the Role

You will assess students' individual needs, deliver targeted interventions and work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to help young people participate more confidently in education and everyday activities.

The role offers the opportunity to apply your clinical knowledge in a practical, education-focused environment, helping students develop the skills they need to become more independent.

The Setting

The school supports young people with SEMH needs, alongside additional needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and other complex SEND.

With a holistic approach to education and wellbeing, the setting recognises the importance of therapeutic support in helping students develop communication, emotional regulation, relationships and independence.

You will work alongside education professionals and other therapists to ensure students receive consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.

The Role

As a Band 5/6 Occupational Therapist, you will:

  • Complete assessments and develop individualised intervention plans.

  • Support sensory processing, emotional regulation and self-regulation.

  • Help students develop functional skills and independence.

  • Identify barriers to learning, participation and everyday activities.

  • Provide practical strategies and guidance to teaching and support staff.

  • Contribute to EHCP outcomes and annual reviews.

  • Monitor progress and adapt interventions to meet changing needs.

  • Work collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary professionals.

  • Embed therapeutic strategies into everyday school routines.

  • Support positive outcomes for students across education and preparation for adulthood.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for a qualified Occupational Therapist who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.

You will ideally have:

  • HCPC registration.

  • Experience supporting children, young people or individuals with additional needs.

  • Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, autism or complex presentations.

  • An understanding of sensory processing and emotional regulation.

  • Experience completing assessments and developing intervention plans.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • A patient, adaptable and solution-focused approach.

Applications are welcome from Band 5 Occupational Therapists looking to develop their specialist experience and Band 6 Occupational Therapists seeking to make a wider impact within an education setting.

Why This Role Matters

For young people with SEMH and complex SEND, developing the ability to regulate emotions, participate in learning and manage everyday tasks can make a lasting difference.

Your work could help a student develop coping strategies, improve functional skills, build confidence or take an important step towards greater independence.

What You Can Expect

  • £170–£260 per day PAYE.

  • Full-time position.

  • Term-time-only working.

  • Temp-to-perm opportunity.

  • Specialist SEMH and SEND environment.

  • Students aged 11–19.

  • Collaborative multidisciplinary working.

  • Opportunity to develop your clinical practice within education.

  • Meaningful work focused on long-term outcomes and independence.
