Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist – SEND School – North West London

For some children, the school day can feel overwhelming before it has even begun. The classroom, the noise and the transitions can all feel too much. With the right support, school can become a place where they feel calm, regulated and ready to learn.

In a specialist SEND school in North West London, therapy is not something that happens separately from education. It is part of everyday school life. Staff and therapists work closely together to create an environment where pupils feel safe in their bodies, understand their emotions and access learning in a way that works for them.

The school is now looking for a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join their multidisciplinary team. You will support pupils across both primary and secondary phases, many of whom have autism, ADHD, SEMH needs and sensory processing differences. This is a role where your input is recognised, valued and embedded into the daily life of the school.

The Role

As a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you will manage a school based caseload and deliver interventions that directly support pupils’ ability to engage, regulate and participate.

• Manage a paediatric occupational therapy caseload within the school setting
• Carry out functional and child centred assessments linked to daily school activities
• Deliver practical interventions to support regulation, motor planning and independence
• Provide sensory strategies that support classroom engagement and participation
• Contribute to EHCP targets and annual reviews
• Support and advise teaching staff on adapting environments and routines
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other therapists

Who This Role Would Suit

This role would suit an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist or a Band 5 ready to step up into a more autonomous position within a supportive setting.

• HCPC registered Occupational Therapist with a recognised qualification
• Experience supporting children and young people with SEND
• Understanding of autism, sensory processing differences and neurodevelopment
• Strong assessment and clinical reasoning skills
• Collaborative approach to working within a multidisciplinary team
• Organised, reflective and committed to improving outcomes for pupils

Sensory Integration training is desirable but not essential.

About the Setting

This specialist SEND school provides a structured and supportive environment where therapy and education work hand in hand.

• Supports both primary and secondary aged pupils
• Pupils present with autism, ADHD, SEMH needs and sensory processing differences
• Calm, structured environments designed to support emotional regulation
• Small class sizes and strong staff to pupil ratios
• Therapy fully integrated into the school day
• Strong collaboration between teaching staff and therapy teams

What the Role Involves

This is a role where you will see the direct impact of your work every day.

• Supporting pupils whose sensory needs can affect their ability to access learning
• Helping staff understand behaviour through regulation and communication
• Introducing practical strategies that build independence and participation
• Celebrating small but meaningful progress in pupils’ daily school experiences

Salary and Benefits

• Band 6 salary (PAYE)
• Term time only working pattern
• Long term opportunity within a specialist SEND setting
• Collaborative multidisciplinary team environment
• Ongoing professional development and SEND specialism
• Opportunity to make a lasting impact on pupils’ wellbeing and learning

Why This Role Matters

For many pupils, feeling regulated is the first step to learning.

As a Paediatric Occupational Therapist in this setting, your work will help children feel more comfortable, more confident and more able to engage with the world around them. You will be part of a team that understands the importance of every small step forward.

If you are looking for a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist role in North West London where therapy is truly valued and embedded within a SEND school, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
