Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist | Specialist SEN School | Brent, North West London
NHS Band 6 Outer London | £170–£260 Daily Rate | Full Time | Term Time Only | Temp to Perm
What if your clinical expertise could help a child achieve something they once thought was impossible?
For children with complex needs, occupational therapy can unlock far more than physical or functional development. It can help a pupil become more independent, participate in learning, manage sensory challenges, communicate their needs and engage more confidently with the world around them.
This specialist SEN school in Brent is looking for a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join its established multidisciplinary therapy team.
Whether you're an experienced paediatric OT or an ambitious therapist looking to develop your specialist SEND experience, this is an opportunity to build your clinical skills in a genuinely collaborative environment.
The School
Supporting pupils aged 3–19 with a wide range of complex needs, including autism, physical and medical needs, Down's syndrome, developmental disabilities and learning difficulties, this is a school where therapy is embedded into everyday life.
Occupational Therapists are not working separately from education. Instead, they work closely with teachers, support staff, families and fellow clinicians to help pupils access learning, develop independence and achieve meaningful outcomes.
You'll become part of a fully integrated on-site MDT alongside Occupational Therapists, Speech & Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants and Creative Arts Therapists.
With such a broad pupil population, you'll be exposed to a varied and clinically rewarding caseload across sensory, physical, functional and developmental areas.
The Role
As a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you'll provide specialist assessment and intervention while working closely with education staff to ensure therapy strategies are consistently embedded throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Completing specialist OT assessments across a varied paediatric caseload
-
Delivering individualised interventions for pupils with physical, sensory, cognitive and developmental needs
-
Developing personalised OT programmes and practical strategies to support independence
-
Contributing to EHCP assessments, annual reviews and professional reports
-
Working alongside teaching staff to integrate therapeutic strategies into classroom practice
-
Providing training and guidance to education staff to support consistent implementation
-
Working collaboratively with the wider MDT to develop holistic, pupil-centred plans
-
Monitoring progress and adapting interventions according to individual needs
-
Contributing to wider therapy and service development across the school
This is more than a traditional school-based OT position.
You'll have the opportunity to develop specialist SEND expertise, work across a diverse caseload and see the impact of your clinical input throughout the pupil's entire school day.
Who We're Looking For
This role could be a great fit for an experienced paediatric OT looking for a new challenge, or a Band 6 therapist keen to develop their expertise within a specialist education environment.
You'll need:
-
HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist
-
Experience working with children and young people
-
Experience within paediatrics, SEN, complex needs or a related clinical setting
-
An understanding of SEND and the EHCP process
-
Strong assessment, clinical reasoning and intervention skills
-
The ability to develop positive relationships with pupils, families and education professionals
-
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
-
A genuine interest in helping children develop independence and reach their potential
Experience within a specialist school environment would be beneficial, but the school is also keen to hear from therapists who have transferable paediatric or complex-needs experience and are looking to develop further.
What You'll Receive
-
NHS Band 6 Outer London salary
-
£170–£260 daily rate
-
Full-time, term-time only position
-
Temp-to-perm opportunity from September 2026
-
Established on-site multidisciplinary therapy team
-
Diverse caseload across pupils aged 3–19
-
Strong opportunities for CPD and specialist development
-
Supportive leadership focused on professional growth
-
Genuine collaboration between therapy and education
-
The opportunity to develop your career within specialist SEND
Why This Role Matters
For the pupils at this school, occupational therapy can be the bridge between what they currently can do and what they could ultimately achieve.
Sometimes that means developing a practical life skill. Sometimes it's finding the right sensory strategy to help a pupil engage in learning. Sometimes it's helping a young person become more independent in everyday activities.
Those individual breakthroughs can have a lasting impact.
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to see your work translated into the classroom, the playground and everyday life — while working alongside a team that genuinely values clinical expertise.
If you're looking for a Paediatric OT role where you can develop clinically, work within a strong MDT and make a meaningful difference to children with complex SEND, we'd love to hear from you.
