Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with Clinical Lead Responsibility

Specialist SEN School

Brent, North West London

NHS Band 7 Outer London

Do you have the clinical expertise to lead, the instinct to mentor, and the genuine belief that Speech and Language Therapy delivered well inside a school can change the entire trajectory of a child's life?

Can you hold a complex, varied caseload of children and young people with autism, dysphagia and developmental disabilities, contribute meaningfully to an integrated therapy team, and bring the kind of clinical leadership that raises practice across a whole school community? Are you ready for a senior role where your knowledge shapes outcomes not just for the pupils on your caseload, but for every child whose day is touched by the work you do?

If that sounds like you, a highly specialist SEN school in Brent wants to meet you.

The Setting

This is a specialist provision for pupils aged 3 to 19 with a wide range of complex needs including autism, Down's syndrome, complex physical and medical needs, and developmental and learning disabilities. The therapy team here is not an afterthought or an add-on. It is fully embedded within the school, operating as a genuine on-site multidisciplinary team alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants and Creative Arts Therapists. Within the SALT team specifically, you will work alongside two full-time therapists and one part-time therapist in a supportive, clinically rich environment where development is actively encouraged and CPD is built into the timetable. This is a school that understands what integrated therapeutic practice actually means, and has built its model around it.

The Role

As the new Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with Clinical Lead Responsibility, you will lead and deliver specialist SALT interventions across a complex and varied caseload, with a key focus on dysphagia management and ensuring safe, effective eating, drinking and communication strategies are embedded consistently across the school day. You will complete assessments and contribute to high-quality EHCP reports and reviews, develop and implement communication and swallowing programmes, provide training and support to school staff, and work collaboratively within the MDT to deliver holistic, pupil-centred care. You will also support and mentor junior therapists and therapy assistants, bringing your clinical experience to bear in a way that strengthens the whole team around you.

Who This Is For

You will be an HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist with experience working at Band 6 or Band 7 level in paediatrics or SEN settings, and demonstrable experience supporting pupils with dysphagia. You will have a strong understanding of SEND and EHCP processes and feel confident working within a multidisciplinary model. You will be a clinician who leads by example, communicates clearly, and genuinely enjoys developing others as much as developing yourself. Experience in specialist SEN schools, confidence delivering staff training, and a background supporting complex physical and medical needs are all desirable, though not essential. What matters most is that you are a thoughtful, skilled therapist who is ready to take on more.

What You'll Get

An NHS Band 7 Outer London salary that is competitive and reflective of your experience, a full-time term-time only permanent contract with an ASAP start, a strong CPD programme embedded into your working week, the opportunity to develop specialist dysphagia skills within an educational setting, a genuinely supportive and collaborative team with real opportunities for leadership and progression, and on-site parking. This is a role where clinical excellence is recognised and where your contribution to the school will be felt far beyond your individual caseload.

Why This Role Matters

For pupils with complex communication and swallowing needs, the quality and consistency of their Speech and Language Therapy provision shapes not just how they learn, but how they eat, how they connect, and how they experience the world. The right Band 7 therapist in this role will raise the standard of practice across the whole school, give junior colleagues the guidance they need to grow, and ensure that every child's EHCP reflects and delivers what they actually need. If you are ready to lead at that level, we would very much like to hear from you.
