🔹 Why this role matters
Parker Smith Inclusion have partnered with a thriving Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Harlow—a specialist alternative education setting dedicated to supporting pupils who are unable to access or engage with mainstream schooling. This PRU’s mission is to nurture students with SEMH needs through proactive mentoring, physical activity, and structured support.
🔹 Your mission
Bring your sporting expertise and mentoring abilities to a young person who needs it most. Whether your background is in football, boxing, rugby, judo or another discipline, this role gives you the chance to:
-
Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils referred for social, emotional, behavioural, or trauma-related needs
-
Deliver 1:1 and group support through tailored sporting sessions, behaviour coaching, and motivational activities.
-
Use de-escalation strategies and consistent boundaries to support pupils in regulating their emotions and behaviour.
-
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and external professionals to create and deliver bespoke behaviour support plans.
🔹 Who we’re looking for
-
A calm, confident and compassionate mentor who can establish clear expectations and boundaries.
-
Previous experience working with children or young people—whether in coaching, youth work, education or mentoring roles.
-
A sporting background: coach, trainer or athlete with real drive to use physical activity as a tool for engagement.
-
A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs or barriers to learning.
-
Emotional resilience, consistency, a patient demeanour—and a good sense of humour!
🔹 What you’ll receive
-
A meaningful role where you’ll truly make a difference in a pupil’s life.
-
Full-time, steady work in a specialist education setting.
-
Temp-to-perm pathway, with opportunities to grow within the PRU.
-
Ongoing in-role support and guidance from Parker Smith Inclusion throughout your placement.
-
A competitive PAYE day rate of £90–£115, depending on your skills and experience.
This is perfect for sport-minded individuals who believe in the power of mentoring to change lives and help vulnerable pupils re-engage with education.
