Some students need more than academic support—they need compassion, stability, and someone who can help them rebuild confidence and resilience.

Working with students facing mental health challenges means offering patience, encouragement, and a supportive presence that helps them thrive both emotionally and academically.

Parker Smith Inclusion is supporting specialist provisions across Newham & Hackney, for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, ADHD, and those at risk of exclusion. Being a Behaviour Mentor is being the students consistency, noticing their triggers, their likes dislikes and how to support them to encourage attendance and engagement for education.

The Role as a Behaviour Mentor

  • Support students in small groups or one-to-one
  • Help pupils regulate emotions and rebuild confidence
  • Implement wellbeing and behaviour strategies with teachers and therapists
  • Provide calm, nurturing support through moments of challenge
  • Build strong, trusting relationships based on respect and empathy

About You

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, or at-risk backgrounds
  • Personal knowledge of the challenges young people of Newham & Hackney may face and the risk of exploitation.
  • Calm, empathetic, and able to hold firm but kind boundaries
  • Believe in restorative, trauma-informed approaches
  • Background in SEN schools, PRUs, or youth/community work is beneficial
  • Experience within residential support, children's home or boxing academies is very beneficial
  • Proactive and reflective, with a genuine passion for helping young people
