The school provides a structured, caring, and therapeutic environment where every child is understood as an individual and supported to achieve both academically and emotionally.

Position Details:
Role: Behaviour Mentor
Start Date: September 2025
Location: Chelmsford
Salary: £93 – £115 per day (PAYE, temp-to-perm opportunity available)
Contract Type: Long-term with potential to become permanent

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils who require additional guidance in managing their emotions, behaviour, and engagement with learning. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders to ensure students receive consistent, high-quality support throughout the school day.

Your work will be varied, hands-on, and incredibly rewarding. You will be expected to build trusting and meaningful relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and key point of support during challenging moments.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs across primary, secondary, or both settings
  • Building strong, consistent, and trusting relationships with students to help them feel safe and understood
  • Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions and develop positive coping strategies
  • Encouraging engagement in learning and helping students overcome barriers to education
  • Providing 1:1 and small group interventions tailored to individual needs
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to deliver consistent support plans
  • Promoting positive behaviour strategies and reinforcing school expectations
  • Supporting students through transitions, unstructured times, and moments of crisis when needed

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for individuals who are genuinely passionate about supporting young people and helping them reach their potential, particularly those who may have experienced challenges in education or personal circumstances.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience working with children or young people in any capacity (education, youth work, sports coaching, care, or mentoring) – desirable but not essential
  • A calm, consistent, and patient approach, even in challenging situations
  • Strong emotional resilience and the ability to remain positive under pressure
  • A genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable learners
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A proactive and flexible attitude to supporting a dynamic school environment

A degree is welcome but not required — more important is your attitude, commitment, and willingness to learn and develop within a specialist SEMH setting.

Why Join This School?

This is not just a Behaviour Mentor role — it is an opportunity to become part of a school that truly changes lives. Staff are highly valued and supported, and there is a strong emphasis on training, development, and long-term career progression.
