Behaviour Mentor | Alternative Provision | Harlesden, North West London | £105–£120 per day PAYE
Do you understand that when a young person acts out, they are rarely just being difficult they are telling you something?
Can you be the calm, consistent adult in the room for children with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs holding the boundary and the relationship at the same time, adapting in the moment, and genuinely believing in a young person even when they have stopped believing in themselves? Are you ready to show up every single day for pupils who have learned that school is not a safe place, and slowly, patiently help them discover that it can be?
If that sounds like you, a specialist SEN school in Harlesden wants to meet you.
The Setting
This is not a mainstream school and it was never designed to be. This is a specialist provision for pupils aged 7–16 with Autism (ASC) and associated SEMH needs — young people who have often experienced exclusion, anxiety, and a deep sense that education simply was not built for them. Many arrive guarded, disengaged, and carrying experiences that have made trust feel impossible. Through nurture, structure, therapeutic thinking and strong relationships, they begin to re-engage, rebuild their confidence, and make progress that genuinely matters. The leadership team is experienced and supportive, staff wellbeing is taken seriously, and this is a place where the people who work here feel as valued as the young people they serve.
The Role
As their new Behaviour Mentor, you will be a key, consistent presence in the daily lives of young people who need it most. You will support pupils in class to stay engaged and regulated, provide 1:1 mentoring for those who need additional emotional support, help young people navigate transitions, breaktimes and social situations that can feel overwhelming, and de-escalate challenging behaviour using a calm, trauma-informed approach. You will work closely alongside teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to maintain the consistency that allows trust to grow, reinforce routines, and celebrate the small wins that mean everything in a setting like this.
No two days will look the same, but your impact will be felt in every single one of them.
Who This Is For
You might be an experienced Behaviour Mentor or pastoral specialist with a background in SEMH, SEN or alternative provision. You might come from youth work, residential care or a support role in a specialist setting and be ready to bring that experience into a school that will genuinely value it. Whatever your background, you will need to be calm under pressure, resilient, and deeply committed to building relationships with young people who have every reason to push you away. You understand that behaviour is communication — and that patience, consistency and genuine belief in a child are the most powerful tools you have.
What You'll Get
A daily rate of £105 to £120 PAYE with no umbrella companies or hidden deductions, a full-time term-time only contract with a genuine pathway to a permanent position, ongoing CPD including behaviour, SEMH and de-escalation training, dedicated support from an experienced education recruitment team, and the chance to be part of a setting where what you do every day genuinely changes lives.
Why This Role Matters
For many of the young people in this school, education has meant confusion, failure and feeling unsafe. The right Behaviour Mentor can begin to change that story. Your consistency, your resilience, and your refusal to give up on a young person can help them feel safe, understood, and capable of more than they ever imagined. If you are ready to be that person, we would love to hear from you.
