Behaviour Mentor – SEMH Secondary School (KS3 Autism & ADHD Support)
Whitton, Richmond upon Thames
£90 - £100 per day PAYE | September 2025 Start | Full-Time | Term Time Only
Temp to Permanent Opportunity
Are you calm under pressure, emotionally steady, and ready to be the adult a young person can trust?
We are working with a specialist SEMH school in the Whitton area of Richmond. This is a growing secondary setting for students with EHCPs, many of whom have a combination of Autism, ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Most pupils have experienced disruption in their education and benefit from consistency, patience, and strong role models.
This is a full-time Behaviour Mentor role starting in September 2025. The role will involve working primarily with Key Stage 3 pupils (ages 11–14). The school follows a trauma-informed, therapeutic approach, with regular CPD and excellent support from a multidisciplinary team.
The Role: Behaviour Mentor (Autism & SEMH Support)
- Supporting students with SEMH, Autism and ADHD in a small class-based setting
- Working closely with class teachers, therapists, and behaviour teams
- Helping young people with emotional regulation, behaviour strategies and social communication
- Providing 1:1 and small group interventions
- Building trusting relationships to help students feel safe, understood, and ready to learn
- Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm (term time only)
What the School is Looking For
- Experience supporting young people with behaviour challenges, Autism or SEMH
- Confident, physically active, and emotionally mature, students often respond well to calm and consistent role models.
- Strong backgrounds are welcome, including education, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, and care
- Clear with boundaries, but warm and compassionate
- Committed to long-term impact and professional growth
Why Join This School?
- High-quality leadership and a growing, supportive staff team
- Part of a respected therapeutic education trust
- Weekly CPD and structured training pathways
- Small class sizes and excellent staff-student ratios
- Temp-to-perm route with long-term progression opportunities
This kind of role suits someone with energy, compassion and real staying power. It’s not just about managing behaviour – it’s about being the person who helps a child believe in school again.
