This is not a general school support role
This Behaviour Mentor position is for people who genuinely understand that behaviour is communication.
You will be supporting children and young people with significant social, emotional and mental health needs. This role suits people who are confident working with dysregulation, emotional distress, and challenging behaviour, and who want to make a real difference, not just work in a school environment.
If you are looking for a quiet or general classroom role, this will not be the right fit.
The type of needs you will support
You will be working with pupils who may present with:
SEMH social, emotional and mental health needs
Autism and ASC
ADHD and attention regulation difficulties
Emotional dysregulation and trauma related behaviours
Attachment needs
Communication and interaction difficulties
Sensory processing differences
Some learning difficulties alongside behavioural needs
Many pupils have experienced disrupted education, adverse experiences, or difficulty trusting adults. Your role is to help them feel safe, understood and regulated enough to engage with learning.

The reality of the role
This role can be emotionally demanding. You may work with pupils who display challenging behaviour, emotional outbursts, or withdrawal. You will need to remain calm, consistent and emotionally regulated yourself.
People who thrive in this role are resilient, patient, reflective and able to separate the behaviour from the child.
This role is ideal for people with backgrounds such as
