Behaviour Mentor – SEMH | Camden

Camden, North London
£100–£120 per day, depending on experience
8:30am–4:00pm | Full-time | Term-time

Young people rarely change their behaviour simply because someone tells them to.

Meaningful change usually starts when an adult is consistent enough to build trust, clear enough to maintain boundaries and patient enough to understand what sits behind the behaviour.

Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a Behaviour Mentor in Camden to support pupils who need additional help with emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour.

What could your day involve?

  • Meeting pupils at difficult points in their school day

  • Helping young people return to learning following dysregulation

  • Supporting pupils who struggle with boundaries, relationships or engagement

  • Providing individual mentoring and targeted interventions

  • Reinforcing clear and consistent expectations

  • Helping pupils understand triggers and develop alternative responses

  • Supporting classroom staff with agreed strategies

  • Encouraging positive relationships with peers and adults

  • Working alongside pastoral, SEND and teaching teams

  • Following safeguarding and reporting procedures carefully

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people

  • Calmness and confidence in challenging situations

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • The ability to form positive relationships while maintaining boundaries

  • Resilience, reliability and consistency

  • A strong safeguarding mindset

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting SEMH or behaviour needs

  • Previous work as a Behaviour Mentor, Behaviour Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant

  • Experience within alternative provision, specialist SEND, youth work or pastoral settings

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice

  • Experience supporting young people experiencing barriers to education

Relevant backgrounds can include education, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, care and community support.

What makes a strong Behaviour Mentor?

You do not need to win every disagreement.

You need to know when to challenge, when to listen, when to give space and when a pupil needs an adult who will calmly maintain the same boundary for the tenth time that week.

That consistency can help pupils rebuild their relationship with school and develop healthier ways of responding to difficult situations.
