Behaviour Support Assistant - SEMH
Barnet, North London | £95–£110 per day PAYE | Full-time
Some young people do not need another adult telling them what they have done wrong.
They need someone who can remain calm, understand what may be behind the behaviour and help them find a way back into learning.
Parker Smith Inclusion is recruiting a Behaviour Support Assistant for a specialist education setting in Barnet.
You will work with pupils who may experience social, emotional and mental health needs, difficulties with emotional regulation or barriers to engaging successfully with education.
What will you be doing?
You will support pupils throughout the school day by:
-
Building positive and consistent professional relationships
-
Supporting emotional regulation
-
Helping pupils re-engage following difficult moments
-
Reinforcing clear boundaries and expectations
-
Providing individual and small-group support
-
Recognising behaviour as a form of communication
-
Encouraging positive choices and greater independence
-
Supporting transitions and changes in routine
-
Working closely with teaching and pastoral staff
Who are we looking for?
We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience in:
-
SEMH
-
Behaviour support
-
Alternative provision
-
Youth work
-
Mentoring
-
Residential care
-
Mental health support
-
SEND
-
Sports coaching
You will need to be confident without being confrontational and able to remain consistent when situations become challenging.
What makes a strong Behaviour Support Assistant?
It is not about winning every argument.
It is about knowing when to challenge, when to listen and how to maintain expectations without escalating a situation.
For some pupils, having one reliable adult who continues to treat each day as a fresh start can make a significant difference.
Pay: £95–£110 per day PAYE, depending on experience.
