Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant – Primary School

We are currently working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Thurrock that is seeking to appoint a confident, resilient and experienced Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who already has experience working with children who display challenging behaviour and understands the importance of providing calm, consistent and positive support.
You will work closely with pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support, helping them to regulate their emotions, engage with learning and build positive relationships with both staff and their peers.
The Role
As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils who display challenging behaviour both inside and outside the classroom.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage appropriate behaviour.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team to implement individual behaviour strategies.
- Help pupils manage their emotions and remain engaged with their learning.
- Provide consistent boundaries and positive reinforcement throughout the school day.
- Support pupils in developing their confidence, independence and social skills.
- Contribute to creating a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, ideally within a primary school setting.
- Is confident managing behaviour using positive, consistent and child-centred approaches.
- Can remain calm and professional when faced with challenging situations.
- Is resilient, patient and able to think on their feet.
- Has strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Works well as part of a wider school team.
- Is reliable, committed and genuinely passionate about helping children reach their potential.
