Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant
Thurrock | Primary School | Full-Time | September 2026 Start | Long-Term Opportunity
Could you be the calm, consistent person a child needs when things feel a little overwhelming?
We’re working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Thurrock that is looking for a confident and resilient Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, SEMH or additional emotional needs, who understands that positive behaviour starts with strong relationships, consistency and trust.
You’ll work closely with pupils who need additional support to regulate their emotions, engage with learning and build positive relationships with the adults and children around them.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide targeted support to pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them manage their behaviour and access learning successfully.
You’ll:
-
Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
-
Support children to regulate their emotions and manage difficult situations
-
Use positive reinforcement and consistent boundaries
-
Implement individual behaviour support strategies alongside the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team
-
Help pupils remain engaged with their learning
-
Support children to develop their confidence, independence and social skills
-
Contribute to a safe, calm and inclusive classroom environment
-
Work closely with the wider school team to ensure pupils receive consistent support
This role would suit someone who can remain calm under pressure and understands that behaviour is often a form of communication.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is confident, patient and resilient, with previous experience supporting children who display challenging behaviour.
You’ll ideally have:
-
Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, SEMH or emotional needs
-
Previous experience within a primary school or similar education setting
-
A calm and consistent approach to behaviour management
-
The ability to remain professional when situations become challenging
-
Strong relationship-building and communication skills
-
A proactive approach and the ability to think on your feet
-
The resilience to support pupils consistently throughout the school day
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who looks beyond the behaviour and wants to understand what a child may be communicating through their actions.
About the School
This is a supportive primary school in Thurrock that is committed to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment for its pupils.
The school takes a consistent and child-centred approach to behaviour, with staff working closely together to ensure pupils receive the right support.
You’ll be joining an experienced team with supportive leadership and a collaborative approach, where relationships and pupil wellbeing are taken seriously.
The position is long-term, with the potential to become permanent for the right person.
