Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant – Primary School

We are working with a primary school in Thurrock that is looking for a confident and experienced Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.
This role would suit someone who has previous experience supporting children with challenging behaviour and understands the importance of staying calm, consistent and patient throughout the school day.
You will be supporting pupils who need additional help with their behaviour and emotional regulation, helping them to engage with learning and manage the challenges they may face in the classroom.
The role
You will:
- Support pupils with challenging behaviour both inside and outside the classroom
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Help children manage their emotions and develop more positive behaviours
- Work alongside the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team
- Follow agreed behaviour strategies and provide consistent support
- Help pupils access learning and remain engaged throughout the day
- Contribute to a calm and safe classroom environment
About you
The school is looking for someone with previous experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, ideally within a primary school.
You will need to be:
- Calm and patient, particularly when situations become difficult
- Confident managing challenging behaviour in a positive and consistent way
- Able to build strong relationships with children
- Comfortable working as part of a wider school team
- Reliable, resilient and consistent in your approach
- Genuinely interested in helping children improve their behaviour and access their education
You don't need to have all the answers, but you do need to be able to remain composed, follow support plans and provide children with clear and consistent boundaries.
