Behaviour Teaching Assistant – Havering
£90–£105 per day (PAYE) | Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Long-Term Role
“Every behaviour is a form of communication — are you ready to listen?”
In a mainstream secondary school in Havering, there’s a need for someone who can see beyond the outbursts, the shutdowns, and the silence — someone who understands that challenging behaviour often masks unmet needs, fear, or frustration.
We’re looking for a Behaviour TA who can build trust, set boundaries with compassion, and be a steady, non-judgmental presence for young people who may have never had that before.
These students might be at risk of exclusion, struggling with emotional regulation, or navigating difficult experiences outside of school. Your role will be to support them in making positive choices — not through punishment, but through connection, consistency, and care.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Working 1:1 or in small groups with pupils who need additional behavioural or emotional support
-
Building meaningful relationships rooted in respect, patience, and understanding
-
Supporting pupils both in and out of class to manage emotions, reduce incidents, and re-engage with learning
-
Working closely with pastoral teams, SENCOs, and parents/carers to ensure joined-up support
-
Acting as a positive role model, helping students develop confidence, resilience, and better coping strategies
Who we’re looking for:
-
Someone calm under pressure, emotionally intelligent, and unshakably patient
-
Experience in youth work, mentoring, mental health, SEN, or PRU settings is highly valued — but not essential
-
A reflective practitioner who believes in early intervention, restorative practice, and the power of second chances
-
Someone who wants to make a difference — not just for a term, but for a lifetime
This is a role for someone who sees the person behind the behaviour — and wants to help them find a better way forward.
