We are recruiting a BSL Communication Assistant to work within a welcoming mainstream primary school with a specialist hearing impairment provision in North-West London. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong British Sign Language skills who is passionate about supporting children’s access to learning and communication.
About the role
• Supporting pupils with hearing impairments across both the specialist provision and mainstream classrooms
• Using BSL to support learning, communication and social interaction
• Working collaboratively with class teachers, specialist staff and external professionals
• Supporting pupils who may also have additional needs such as Autism, SEMH or visual impairment
• Creating a nurturing, inclusive and accessible learning environment
About the school
• Inclusive primary school for pupils aged 4–11
• Dedicated hearing impairment provision with experienced specialist staff
• Multi-modal communication approach including BSL, SSE, spoken and written English
• Strong focus on inclusion, deaf awareness and staff development
Requirements
• BSL Level 2 minimum (or currently training towards it)
• Confidence using BSL in an educational or child-focused setting
• A genuine passion for inclusion and supporting children with additional needs
• Previous experience in a school or deaf provision is desirable but not essential
