Are you confident using British Sign Language and passionate about helping deaf pupils access learning and communication every day?

A welcoming mainstream primary school in North West London is seeking a dedicated BSL Support Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a specialist hearing impairment provision while also supporting pupils within mainstream classrooms.

The school has a strong inclusive ethos and a well-established specialist provision for pupils with hearing impairments. The successful candidate will use British Sign Language to support communication, learning and social interaction, helping pupils feel confident, included and fully engaged in school life.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with BSL skills who wants to make a meaningful difference while gaining valuable experience within a supportive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support pupils with hearing impairments across both the specialist provision and mainstream classrooms

Use British Sign Language (BSL) to support learning, communication and social interaction

Work closely with class teachers, SEN staff and external professionals

Support pupils who may also have additional needs such as autism, SEMH or visual impairment

Help create a nurturing, inclusive and accessible learning environment

Encourage independence, confidence and participation in classroom activities

Requirements

BSL Level 2 minimum or currently working towards the qualification

Confidence using British Sign Language within a child-focused or educational setting

Strong communication and relationship-building skills

A genuine passion for inclusion and supporting pupils with SEND

Previous school or deaf provision experience is desirable but not essential
