BSL Communication Support Worker

Location: Brent, London

Pay: £92.59 – £97.50 per day PAYE

Hours: 08:20–15:45 | Monday–Friday | Term Time Only Start: ASAP

Every child deserves to fully participate in their education. For deaf and hearing impaired pupils, the right communication support does not just help them learn. It changes what they believe is possible for them.

A welcoming mainstream primary school in Brent is looking for a BSL Communication Worker to join their dedicated Hearing Impairment Provision. Whether you hold your BSL Level 2 qualification or are currently working towards it, this is a rare opportunity to do meaningful, skilled work in an inclusive school that genuinely values deaf awareness and to build a career that matters.

The school has an experienced team, strong systems, and a real commitment to making inclusion work in practice, not just on paper. You will be supported from day one.

The Role

You will be embedded across specialist and mainstream settings, using your BSL skills to bridge communication, support learning, and help hearing impaired pupils feel fully included in school life. You will support pupils with hearing impairments in both specialist provision and mainstream classrooms, use BSL, SSE and multi-modal communication to aid understanding and participation, work as part of a skilled team alongside teachers, therapists and support staff, contribute to whole-school deaf awareness activities and staff development, and help create an environment where every child feels they truly belong.

The School

This is an inclusive primary school for children aged 4 to 11 with a specialist Hearing Impairment Provision at its heart. The school uses a multi-modal communication approach encompassing BSL, SSE, spoken and written English, and some pupils may also have additional needs including Autism, SEMH or Visual Impairments. Deaf awareness is not a box-ticking exercise here. It is woven into the school's culture and community.

Who This Role Is For

You will need BSL Level 2 as a minimum, or to be actively working towards it. Beyond that, we are looking for someone who is confident using BSL in a classroom setting, is patient, warm and genuinely passionate about supporting children with diverse communication needs, and has previous school or provision experience. Strong candidates who are newer to education but hold BSL Level 2 are very welcome to apply.

This role is particularly well suited to those looking to build towards a career as a Teacher of the Deaf, SEN Teacher or Speech and Language Therapist. The experience and exposure on offer here is hard to find elsewhere.

What's on Offer

This role offers £92.59 to £97.50 per day PAYE, paid directly with no umbrella companies, hours of 08:20 to 15:45 Monday to Friday term time only, an immediate start, ongoing CPD and professional development, and outstanding experience for those moving towards a specialist career in deaf education or SEND.

Why This Role Matters

Deaf and hearing impaired children thrive when they have someone in the room who speaks their language, literally. A skilled BSL communicator does not just translate words. They open up lessons, build confidence and help a child feel like they are really part of their class, not just present in it.

This is structured, purposeful work in a school that has invested seriously in getting inclusion right. If you want a role where your BSL skills are genuinely central and not an afterthought, this is it.

Working with Parker Smith Inclusion, you will be respected for who you are and what you bring to the students in the schools we support. To apply or find out more, contact Daniel at Parker Smith Inclusion at daniel@psinclusion.co.uk
