BSL Communication Support Worker | Hearing Impairment Provision | Brent, North West London | £92.59–£97.50 per day PAYE

What does it mean to a child to move through their school day feeling genuinely understood not accommodated, not managed, but truly included in every conversation, every lesson, every moment of learning?

For deaf and hearing impaired pupils, the right communication support does not simply help them keep up. It changes what they believe is possible for themselves. It tells them, without words, that they belong here just as much as anyone else.

If you have the BSL skills, the warmth and the commitment to be that bridge for a child, this school in Brent wants to hear from you.

The setting

This is an inclusive mainstream primary school for children aged 4 to 11 with a dedicated Hearing Impairment Provision at its heart. The school takes a multi-modal communication approach, drawing on BSL, SSE, spoken and written English; and some pupils also have additional needs including Autism, SEMH or Visual Impairment. Deaf awareness here is not a policy document gathering dust. It is woven into the culture of the school, its classrooms and its community. The team is experienced, the systems are strong, and you will be supported properly from day one.

The role

Working across both the specialist provision and mainstream classrooms, you will use your BSL skills to bridge communication, support learning and help hearing impaired pupils feel fully present in school life. You will support pupils with hearing impairments in both specialist and mainstream settings, use BSL, SSE and multi-modal communication to aid understanding and participation, work alongside teachers, therapists and support staff as part of a skilled and collaborative team, contribute to whole-school deaf awareness and staff development, and help create an environment where every child genuinely feels they belong.

Who this is for

  • Candidates with a basic understanding of BSL
  • People who are confident using BSL in a busy classroom environment
  • Patient, warm individuals with a genuine passion for supporting children with diverse communication needs
  • Those with previous school or provision experience, though strong candidates newer to education are very welcome
  • Anyone building towards a career as a Teacher of the Deaf, SEN Teacher or Speech and Language Therapist, the experience on offer here is hard to find elsewhere

What's on offer

  • £92.59–£97.50 per day PAYE, paid directly, no umbrella companies
  • Monday to Friday, 08:20 to 15:45, term time only
  • Immediate start available
  • Ongoing CPD and professional development
  • Exceptional experience for those moving towards a specialist career in deaf education or SEND
  • Dedicated support throughout the process from Daniel at Parker Smith Inclusion

Why this role matters

For many deaf and hearing impaired children, the difference between feeling included and feeling invisible comes down to one person, the adult beside them who makes communication possible. In this role, that person is you. The skills you bring into that classroom each day do not just support learning. They shape how a child sees their own potential and their own place in the world.
