BSL Communication Teaching Assistant – Brent
ASAP Start | Full-time | Term-time only | £92.59–£97.50 PAYE per day
Weekly pay | Immediate interviews available
Ready to put your BSL skills into practice?
Are you Level 1 BSL qualified or currently working towards Level 2?
Perhaps you have been looking for a role where you can develop your signing skills while gaining valuable experience supporting children with additional needs.
This could be the opportunity for you.
A welcoming mainstream primary school in Brent is looking for a BSL Communication Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 3–11 across both specialist and mainstream provision.
The school supports pupils with Autism, Speech, Language and Communication Needs and associated learning difficulties. BSL is used as part of everyday communication, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills through regular, meaningful use in the classroom.
You will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff, learning effective communication strategies while helping pupils access learning and feel confident in the classroom.
About the role
-
Support pupils across specialist provision and mainstream classrooms
-
Use BSL to support classroom instructions, communication and learning
-
Provide 1:1 and small-group support where additional communication support is required
-
Work closely with teachers and support staff to maintain consistent communication approaches
-
Encourage pupils' communication, confidence and engagement
-
Develop your BSL through regular use within the school environment
-
Continue progressing your BSL skills, including towards Level 2 and beyond
Who we are looking for
We are interested in hearing from candidates who have:
-
Level 1 BSL or are currently working towards Level 2
-
A genuine interest in BSL, Deaf awareness and inclusive education
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-
A background in Psychology, Education, Drama, Youth Work, Mentoring or a related area
-
Previous SEND or school experience is beneficial but not essential
Most importantly, the school is looking for someone who is enthusiastic, patient and keen to learn.
You don't need years of classroom experience. If you have the right attitude, an interest in BSL and a passion for supporting children, this could be a great next step.
Why this role?
This is more than a typical Teaching Assistant position.
You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on classroom experience, develop your BSL skills and learn from experienced professionals working within a supportive SEND environment.
For the right person, this could provide a strong foundation for a longer-term career in SEND, education or communication support.
