Are you BSL Level 2 qualified, or currently working towards your qualification? Are you passionate about supporting deaf children in a primary school setting where inclusion, communication and pupil wellbeing are genuinely prioritised?

We are recruiting a BSL Support Assistant to work within a welcoming mainstream primary school with a specialist hearing impairment provision in North-West London. This role is ideal for someone with strong British Sign Language skills who is committed to supporting pupils’ access to learning and communication.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with hearing impairments across both the specialist provision and mainstream classrooms

  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to support learning, communication and social interaction

  • Working closely with class teachers, SEN staff and external professionals

  • Supporting pupils who may also have additional needs such as Autism, SEMH or visual impairment

  • Helping to create a nurturing, inclusive and accessible learning environment

About the school

  • Inclusive mainstream primary school for pupils aged 4–11

  • Dedicated hearing impairment provision with experienced specialist staff

  • Multi-modal communication approach including BSL, SSE, spoken and written English

  • Strong focus on inclusion, deaf awareness and ongoing staff development

Requirements

  • BSL Level 2 minimum, or currently training towards the qualification

  • Confidence using BSL in an educational or child-focused setting

  • A genuine passion for inclusion and supporting pupils with SEND

  • Previous experience in a school or deaf provision is desirable but not essential
