Richmond, South West London

£95–£110 per day (PAYE, term-time only)

Full-time, long-term placement | ASAP start

About the Role

Some children hear the world differently. For them, communication is connection. When a pupil finally understands a story, a joke, or a simple “well done” through your signing, it’s magic. That’s the difference you’ll make every single day.

We are working with a warm and inclusive primary school in Richmond that supports both deaf and hearing pupils. The school has a well-established HI Unit and works closely with Teachers of the Deaf, Speech and Language Therapists, and a small team of signing specialists.

As a BSL Teaching Assistant/Communication Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in making learning accessible and enjoyable for every child.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils who are deaf or have partial hearing loss across EYFS and Key Stages 1–2
  • Use British Sign Language (BSL) and visual communication strategies to bring lessons to life
  • Build pupils’ confidence, independence, and social skills
  • Work collaboratively with Teachers of the Deaf, classroom teachers, and therapists
  • Adapt communication so every child feels included and understood

About You

  • Hold BSL Level 2, or BSL Level 1 with strong practical or personal signing experience (e.g. deaf family members or experience in the Deaf community)
  • Patient, empathetic, and passionate about inclusive education
  • Find joy in small achievements: a child’s first signed story, a moment of shared laughter, or a breakthrough in confidence
  • Looking for a long-term, stable role where you can truly make a difference

Why Join This School

  • Supportive, close-knit team specialising in deaf education
  • Opportunities for ongoing BSL training and progression (up to Level 3 and beyond)
  • Inclusive, nurturing environment where staff and pupils are equally valued
  • PAYE pay only – no umbrella deductions
  • Long-term stability with potential for a permanent position
