Business Studies Teacher - ASC & SEMH (Low Presenting Needs)
Mole Valley, Surrey
Full-time, term-time only | September 2026 start
£35,000 - £45,000 per annum
Have you ever watched a pupil realise that something they're learning actually applies to their own future?
For many autistic young people, and those with low presenting SEMH needs, confidence isn't built through big breakthroughs. It grows quietly, through predictability, feeling understood, and discovering subjects that genuinely make sense of the world around them.
Business Studies can become exactly that. Understanding money, employment, decision-making and enterprise offers pupils practical knowledge they can carry far beyond the classroom.
This specialist school in Mole Valley is looking for a Business Studies Teacher who enjoys creating calm, structured lessons where pupils feel safe enough to engage, ask questions and develop independence.
About the Role
From September 2026, the school is seeking a Business Studies Teacher to work with pupils aged 7-16 with Autism, ADHD and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. While every pupil has an EHCP, many present with lower-level SEMH needs and benefit most from consistent routines, reduced anxiety, sensory-aware practice and strong, trusting relationships.
About the School
This is a nurturing specialist setting where pupils thrive because the environment has been designed around their needs rather than expecting them to adapt to traditional schooling.
Class sizes are small, allowing staff to understand each pupil as an individual. There is a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing, communication and sensory regulation, with carefully planned learning spaces that minimise unnecessary distractions and help pupils feel settled throughout the school day.
The curriculum is personalised, giving teachers the flexibility to adapt lessons, teaching styles and expectations so pupils can experience success while continuing to make meaningful academic progress.
The Role
-
Deliver engaging Business Studies lessons that connect learning to everyday life, future employment and independent living.
-
Create structured, predictable lessons that reduce anxiety and allow pupils to build confidence over time.
-
Adapt teaching to suit different learning profiles, communication styles and sensory needs.
-
Break down complex concepts into manageable steps while providing appropriate challenge for pupils who are ready to progress further.
-
Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists and pastoral staff to ensure each pupil can access learning in a way that works for them.
-
Encourage curiosity, problem-solving and real-world thinking through practical projects such as budgeting, enterprise and financial literacy.
-
Foster a classroom environment where pupils feel safe to contribute, make mistakes and celebrate progress.
What We're Looking For
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is preferred, although applicants with strong Business Studies knowledge and relevant experience in specialist education are encouraged to apply.
The ideal candidate will:
-
Understand or be keen to learn about Autism, sensory processing differences and neurodiversity.
-
Be patient, calm and able to provide consistency and reassurance.
-
Enjoy adapting teaching to meet individual learning styles.
-
Build positive relationships through empathy, clear communication and trust.
-
Believe that education should prepare young people not just for exams, but for confident, independent futures.

Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum
