Speech & Language Therapist – Band 7 (or strong Band 6 ready to step up)
Clinical Lead (Dysphagia Specialism)
Brent | Full time | Flexible entry via locum with clear pathway to permanent
Start date: Flexible

As a SaLT with paediatric/school based experience, you will know that truly integrated, school-based MDT working is rare. The opportunity to step into a Clinical Lead role within one is even rarer.

This is a unique chance to join a well-established SEN school in Brent where Speech & Language Therapy is fully embedded within a multidisciplinary team of SaLTs, OTs, Physios, Therapy Assistants and Creative Arts Therapists, all working side by side, every day, within the school environment.

Inspiring those who support children with the highest communication and feeding needs is work filled with purpose.

You might already be a Band 7. Or you might be a strong Band 6 who knows you’re ready to step up. You are organised, collaborative, and confident working with complexity. You’re comfortable supporting others, whether that’s developing therapy colleagues, guiding school staff, or shaping practice across a setting. Dysphagia is an area you feel confident leading in, or ready to take ownership of.

The Role

This is a Clinical Lead SaLT position, overseeing a team of:

  • 2 full-time SaLTs

  • 1 part-time SaLT

You’ll work as part of a genuinely collaborative MDT, contributing not only to individual outcomes but to how therapy is delivered across the whole school.

Your role will include:

  • Leading clinical practice and service delivery, with a focus on dysphagia

  • Supporting and developing SaLT colleagues

  • Working closely with education staff to ensure EHCP provision is meaningful and delivered consistently

  • Providing in-class support, modelling, and whole staff training

  • Contributing to the ongoing development of the therapy service

The Setting

The school supports learners aged 3–19 (EYFS to post-16) with:

  • PMLD and complex physical/cognitive needs

  • Autism

  • Down’s Syndrome

  • A wide range of developmental and medical profiles

The caseload is diverse, clinically rich, and offers significant opportunity to deepen expertise, particularly in dysphagia within complex needs.

How This Role Works

This position has been designed to support someone stepping into leadership.

The school offers a flexible entry via locum, giving you the chance to:

  • Settle into the team and understand the service

  • Build confidence in the Clinical Lead role

  • Transition into a permanent position with clarity and support

Why This Role Stands Out

  • A genuinely embedded MDT model (unusual in school settings)

  • Strong, built-in CPD programme

  • Real opportunity to step into leadership with support

  • A collaborative culture where therapy and education work seamlessly together

  • Autonomy in your role, alongside a reflective and supportive team

Who They’re Looking For

  • Band 7 SaLT, or experienced Band 6 ready to step up

  • Experience in dysphagia management

  • Confidence working within complex needs and MDT environments

  • Someone ready to take the next step into clinical leadership

Based in Brent, the school has excellent transport links and on-site/nearby parking.

If you’re ready to move into leadership but want to do it in a supported, meaningful way, within a model that genuinely enables good practice, this is a rare opportunity.
